Whimside is the Pokemon idle game I need

Oct 16, 2025

Whimside is an idle-ish creature collecting game that sits at the bottom of your PC display as you go about your daily life. As you play, you'll collect new creatures, breed them based on perks, build out a cozy little pasture for your friends, and explore a ton of new biomes.

As I've played Whimside, I've noticed that I'm in two very distinct modes: idle and active. When I'm busy doing work (or writing this article), I'll mostly just glance at the bottom of my screen every few minutes to see if there are any new creatures to collect. But, when I finish a task or just need a quick break, I'll focus all my attention on the game to optimize my pasture, or choose a few friends to breed in the hopes of unlocking one that will help me move to the next biome.

These desk companion games are having a bit of a resurgence (looking at you, Tiny Aquarium) and I get it: it's really nice to have a little Tamagotchi farm you can check out when your brain needs a break.

Do I recommend it? I've enjoyed my time with it, but I can see the game feeling a little aimless if you're not into idle games. Check out the demo if you're unsure, otherwise, Whimside is $5.85, a perfectly good price for the novelty.

Whimside was released on August 7, 2025 on PC. This game was played on PC with a copy provided by the developer.
